HABC Award in CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance) (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6

Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.

The Award in CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance) (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6 has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is based on the relevant SIA ‘Specifications for Learning and Qualification and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a CCTV operative. Subjects covered include roles and responsibilities of CCTV operators, codes of practice,
operational procedures and guidelines, CCTV equipment and operation and surveillance techniques.

The qualification comprises 3 mandatory units:

  • Unit 1 – Working in the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 2 – Working as a CCTV Operator
  • Unit 3 – Practical Operation Of CCTV Equipment within the Private Security Industry

The minimum contact hours for this qualifications are 27 hours of the required 32 guided learning hours.

This qualification can enable the learner to progress onto the SVQ in Providing Security Services or undertake further learning in other areas of
the private security industry such as security guarding or door supervision.


HABC Award in Door Supervision (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6

Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.

The Award in Door Supervision (Scotland) (at SCQF Level 6) has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for learners who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a door supervisor within the private security industry.

Subjects covered include behavioural standards, legislation relevant to the role, search procedures, powers of arrest, recording incidents and crime scene preservation, avoiding conflict and reducing personal risk, conflict management, reducing risk and communicating effectively.

The qualification comprises four mandatory units:

  • Unit 1 – Working in the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 2 – Working as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 3 – Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 4 – Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry

The minimum contact hours for this qualifications are 30 hours of the required 38 guided learning hours.

This qualification can enable the learner to progress onto the SVQ in Providing Security Services or undertake further learning in other areas of the private security industry such as CCTV operations or security guarding.


HABC Award in Security Guarding (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6

Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.

The HABC Award in Security Guarding (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6 has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA).
It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the necessary knowledge and understanding for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a security guard within the private security industry.

Subjects covered include the roles and responsibilities of security officers, patrolling, search procedures, security systems, communication, reporting and record keeping, legislation and its relevance to the role, avoiding conflict and reducing personal risk, reducing risk of conflict, effective communication and problem solving strategies.

The qualification comprises three mandatory units:

  • Unit 1 – Working in the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 2 – Working as a Security Officer
  • Unit 3 – Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry

The minimum contact hours for this qualifications are 20.5 hours of the required 36 guided learning hours.

This qualification enables individuals to progress onto the SVQ in Providing Security Services or undertake further learning in other areas of the private security industry such as CCTV operations or door supervision.


HABC Award for Upskilling Door Supervisors (Scotland)

In March 2012 the SIA announced the intention to require existing door supervisors who had achieved the pre-QCF Door Supervision qualification (for example the National Certificate for Door Supervision (Scotland) to undertake additional training in order to renew their licence.

HABC have been involved in discussions with the SIA to develop a new qualification that will meet these new requirements for SIA Door Supervisor licence renewals.

The new qualification comprises of the following two mandatory units:

  • Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry in Scotland (10 Guided Learning Hours, with a minimum of 7.5 hours contact time)
  • Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors in Scotland (2 Guided Learning Hours required, with no minimum contact time stipulated. However,
    the examination for this unit should be completed within the recommended guided learning hours)

The new Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors unit of assessment and workbook have been developed to cover the following subjects within the security sector:

  • Counter Terrorism
  • First Aid Awareness
  • Dealing with Children and Young People
